Education should equip individuals with the required competencies, the ‘oars to row with on the river of life.’ One sure way of achieving the purpose of education is to have organized education system which we have proven in years at GEMS education system. This system is the result of a determined and hard-work of great minds over several decades.
The learnings of the best educational models across the world guide the formulation of the basic tenets of the education model at Dream Africa Schools (DAS).
Dream Africa Schools Nursery and Primary curriculum is aligned to the National Curriculum Framework. This facilitates benchmarking of teaching and learning standards at DAS schools against national & regional standards and ensures DAS schools will meet all basic requirements and minimum standards (BRMS) as set out by the department of education.
Dream Africa Schools’ nursery and primary curriculum will be expressed through a set of learning goals across different ‘learning area’ including numeracy, literacy, scientific temper and social & community awareness.
The Dream Africa Schools framework for early years is an outcome of an exhaustive study of Uganda’s National Framework, British Early Year framework, Singapore’s Early years framework and our own “Little Gems Framework” and it recognizes eight fundamental learning areas viz. Communication, Literacy, Personal-Social-Emotional development, Discovery of the world, Physical development, Mathematics, Expressive art and creative design and development of local language skills for each learning group i.e. Babies (Ages 3+), Middles (Ages 4+) and the Tops (Ages 5+). Our framework focuses both on academic as well as personal development to ensure a strong sense of self- worth and a personal identity and is designed for holistic, focused and outcome driven learning for all our learners
DAS schools will offer its students all avenues not only to set high academic goals but also prepare them for today’s world by offering opportunities of new age learning through ‘elective modules’. Elective modules would be offered for ‘digital awareness’ and ‘active learning’ through LOTC projects. Additionally each student at upper primary level at our schools will ‘sign up’ for a ‘One Skill project’ (OSP) , lasting for entire years of primary and will give them the opportunity to master at least one skill of their choice and one which will hold them in good standing for their future years.
DAS recognizes the cultural ethos and belief systems of communities vary with time and geography. DAS will make an active and sincere effort to engage parents, community leaders, self-help groups and other organizations so as to learn their best practices and also help build a system of camaraderie such that – schools become the focal point of community knowledge hub. This will not only ensure that the community positively contributes to school development but also promote innovation through effective utilization of location based prevalent skills. In achieving our educational purpose, the learning environments in Dream Africa schools strive to produce successful learners, who are literate, creative, productive, tech savvy and able leaders in the global society.
We sure great demands are going to be made from the new generation, and only those able to contend with rapid change and personal adaptability will be able to cope better. We, at DAS -Schools assure to pass-out students that make ‘able’ individuals of tomorrow
